In the last few years stop motion has become very, very popular. Not the case when I started snooping on SMA and AC years back. Now there's a BOOM of amateur and studio stop motion projects. Everyone's doing it!
With demand comes the push for new, easier-to-use technologies. You don't need a 13mm camera, or a "Lunch Box" or even a really sharp camera. Phones, tablets, and the "App" happened, and they've brought with them a flood of options. This is great news for my simple, amateur brain.
Technology has finally caught up to how stupid I am!
So, after a few comparison shots, I've decided to use my phone. Yeah, my freakin' phone! The Boinx iStopmotion software has a remote camera app for the iPhone.
With the continuous updating and buying of new devices I think it gets lost on how far we've come in a few years. I mean, yeah, everyone's got a cool phone, but, seriously, take some time to appreciate it. This shit is better'n Star Trek!
I can't afford a DSLR fancy-pants camera. I can't afford the DragonFrame fancy-pants software. But, the stuff I am using, I couldn't have imagined when I first began my stopmo journey.
And I appreciate it!

Boinx's iStopmotion hasn't gotten the best reviews, but I have nothing but nice things to say about it. It's simple to use and the remote App is brilliant.

Resourceful! Never used an iPhone or Boinx software but if it works, and you got it, why not!
ReplyDeleteIs that 22 seconds 'in the can'? I'm trembling with antiicipation :D
You using what works, good job man! Set looks great too!
ReplyDeleteDean-Thanks! Yep! you can't beat cheap or free. Plus, the picture quality is much better than my regular digital camera (go figure). Also; Yes! 22 secs in the can. I'm going to finish a few more bits for the intro, then edit 'em all together!
ReplyDeleteJeff-Thanks, buddy! I'd love to be able to afford all pro level stuff, but it feels more appropriate doing things the dyi/hobby way.
